For this workshop, students were provided with a disassembled cardboard camera obscura and, without any context for the device, instructed on assembling it piece by piece. Without context, students gradually discovered how the device worked and then were sent out to explore its function and properties. The historical context was provided once students had familiarized themselves with their cameras.
